According to Saudi Gazette, there are over half a million Twitter accounts that target Saudi Arabia and attempt to wreak havoc in society. Only countries can run such a large number of accounts. Some of the accounts promote atheistic thoughts, some prostitution, others lewdness and homosexuality. They all have one common goal: to destroy religion and morality in society.
There are around 4,500 accounts encouraging atheism. All of these accounts target Saudis, according to the report Dr. Fayez Al-Shehri sent to the Shoura Council.
“Some accounts promote questions seeking to create doubt about the existence of Allah, the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), major Islamic events that took place in the past, the Holy Qur’an, the companions of the Prophet and the wives of the Prophet. What is really shocking and disgusting is that many of these accounts focus on incest. They want Saudis and Arabs to follow the West in engaging in such heinous activities. Those responsible for these accounts want others to think that they have a lot of people following them.” Al-Shehri said.
He added: “We should not ignore these social media accounts nor dismiss them as unimportant or unable to influence our religious and political values as well as our ethics. We should take practical and strict action and employ technology to hack into these accounts to find out who is running them. Otherwise, our national unity and solidarity will be weak and fragile in the future.”
According to Dr. Al-Shehri, an expert on social media websites and a member of the security committee of the Shoura Council, only the Ministry of Interior can take such action and destroy these social media accounts before they are able to affect our ethics and our young men and women, children and families.
Recently, Saudi Arabia become more sensitive about any kind of social media activities. They even amending laws to monitor social media. Classified ‘Atheists’ as terrorist under the new laws, which AAI start a petition against this law and we are in process to take this action to UN representatives. (You can still join this action). Even Saudi court has imprisoned blogger Raif Badawi for 10 years and 1,000 lashes for “insulting Islam”.
