Hello ,

This is a sad day for AAI. Our highly respected President has decided to leave us, see her message below. We have published our Farewell message to Gail and other leavers here: https://atheistalliance.org/announcements/farewells/

In other news, we have more than a dozen applicants for the post of Executive Director, which has been temporarily filled by Bridget Gaudette and Courtney Heard, with a view to making an appointment before the AGM on May 31st.

Our newly adopted By-laws stipulate that we must have an election before the AGM since some of our Directors have completed a term of office and we have vacancies for other Director posts, details follow below.

president's message

It is with mixed feelings that I have to tell you that I have decided to resign.

Regular readers will know that, during my Presidency, we’ve achieved worthy campaigns in several countries where, previously, we had little or no presence. We also have a growing list of affiliated organizations, more individual members and an improved funding stream. We now employ an Executive Director to manage our expanding day to day business of combating the attempts of the religious to assert their ‘godly’ control over the non-believing population.

I’m particularly proud of the fact that we are taking a State Governor to Nigeria’s Higher Court for the unconstitutional allocation of public funds to a religious purpose and that we are putting a proposal for consultation to the United Nations for a Right to be Secular Bill. Global attention-grabbing campaigns like these are long term ventures with their own dedicated leadership on our Board and will not be affected by my departure.

All in all, I’m confident that we are now back on a very sound footing with a well-planned strategy for continuing our mission to promote secularism and normalize atheism.

However, it has been an eventful and strenuous three years reviving AAI; indeed, it has become increasingly demanding as our organization has grown so, quite frankly, I need a rest!

I shall miss those convivial times we had in face to face meetings around meal tables, but I’m comforted by the knowledge that I leave AAI in good shape with a talented team well capable of continuing the progress towards our vision of a secular world.

Election of Board Members
There are currently six open board positions: three At Large Directors and Regional Directors for Africa, Australasia, and South America.

Nominations
Paid-up Affiliate Members are entitled to nominate any number of candidates for the At Large positions and one candidate for a Regional position and that candidate must be for the Affiliate’s own region. Paid-up Individual Members may nominate themselves for any Board position.

Please note, nominees for the AAI Board must satisfy the following criteria:
  • Sufficient competence in reading and speaking English to be able to participate in Board discussions.
  • Hold current Alliance membership.
  • Have access to reliable internet connectivity.
  • Be available to attend monthly Board meetings and any committees to which they are appointed,
  • Have a record as an activist or organizer on behalf of nonbelief for at least two years, or otherwise possess skills deemed valuable to the organization.
The Board will carry out authentication checks to ensure nominees meet these criteria before including them on the ballot paper. Authenticated nominees will be invited to submit campaign materials that will be displayed on the AAI website.

If you are interested in a Board role, please join AAI and submit your nomination. Click here now.

Nominations for Board positions must be received by the AAI Secretary by March 08, 2020.

Voting
Ballots showing all available positions and candidates will be sent to paid-up Affiliate Members in good standing on May 24. Affiliates have one vote for each available position and may vote for all At-large positions but may only vote for the Regional position within their region.

The results of the election will be announced at the AGM.
