Atheist activist from Egypt
A young activist from Egypt asked for our help as she was tortured, blackmailed, and raped because of her atheism. AAI helped her find safety in Europe. Overwhelmed with joy, she wrote to us:
''I was getting forced to get married and almost got killed by my mom because I did not want to hide my identity and who I am! As an Ex-Muslim lesbian woman in Egypt, I was oppressed by everyone, the police, my family, and the Muslim community. After I was raped I was devastated and lost the hope of being able to live again or get justice. Thank you AAI for your support.''
These are just a few of the people we’re supporting. In countries such as Bangladesh, Turkey, Nigeria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Somalia the governments collaborate with the Islamic fundamentalists to torture and imprison secular activists and bloggers. When such injustices take place, Atheists Alliance International is obligated to support those innocent victims. Support includes a place to hide, other necessities, expensive legal battles, and relocation to a safe haven.
