Three things you may not know
This is the first of what we anticipate will be a regular monthly newsletter for AAI members and affiliates letting you know about what we’ve been up to lately and about upcoming activities.
Here are three things you may not know about us: - We’re soon to celebrate our thirtieth anniversary. Pretty good for a non-profit, secular organization.
- We have no salaried employees. Virtually every cent we raise goes to support atheist organizations worldwide and to providing support to atheists whose lives are threatened, or made unbearable, by theists.
- We hold a GuideStar platinum rating for transparency—the highest level they offer.
What have we accomplished recently? A lot. For example, Tonoy Emroz and our Atheist Support Network have been working overtime helping at-risk atheists. Here are some recent accomplishments: - Helped relocate an Egyptian LGBTQ atheist to Europe.
- Helped two Bangladeshi bloggers with a legal team.
- Helped relocate and support the education of a young Tunisian woman atheist who was at risk of an honor killing by family members.
- Helped a Saudi atheist activist, a Somalia-born ex-Muslim atheist, a popular Egyptian woman activist, and a Maldive-born atheist woman to relocate to safety.
- Supported a large number of Afghan atheists with funds and support to go into hiding.
