Atheist Alliance International works to keep atheists safe. In many parts of the world, having no religious belief makes you a criminal. You could lose your civil rights, your liberty, your job, and your family. You could be flogged, imprisoned, or even executed. The mistreatment of atheists is one of the most widespread and egregious human rights abuses in the world today.
At AAI, we work to have atheists accepted and for atheism to be a human right. Where people are under threat, we help them get to safety and help to make their lives better. If you are enraged that people should be criminalized, brutalized, and discriminated against for the crime of thinking clearly, do something to help.

What are we planning for 2020?
We have a list of exciting and important campaigns that are underway or being considered for next year. The more members we have, the more campaigns we can support.
The Right to be Secular
The right to be religious is enshrined in international law. We are campaigning for the United Nations to explicitly declare the right to be secular. We will use the weight of public opinion and our UN Special Consultative status to agitate for this right.
Nigerian worship center appeal
We are fighting the government of Akwa Ibom state’s unconstitutional funding and promotion of a Christian worship center. As expected, we lost the first round but we are now appealing and will, if necessary, take this case to the Nigerian Supreme Court. Winning this will have repercussions across Nigeria where unconstitutional government support for religion is rife.
Nigerian safe-house
We plan to contribute to a safe-house in Nigeria where atheists from the Muslim majority north of the country can live without fear of violence.
Atheist conference in Lebanon
We want to help our affiliate in Lebanon set up a conference with big-name atheists speakers presenting by video link. There has never been an atheist conference in Lebanon and we believe this will be hugely popular with the growing number of atheists in the country.
Supporting atheist refugees in Turkey
There is a huge number of refugees in Turkey but priority is given to Christian and Muslim refugees leaving atheists to kick their heels and wait to be processed. We will contribute to employing a full-time support worker who will help atheists get fair treatment.
Banning religious symbols in Greek courts
Most courts in Greece display Christian symbols that our Greek affiliate believes is unconstitutional. We will campaign for the government to ban these symbols and will take the matter to court if necessary.
